On February 13-14, 2024, the Department of Family Medicine at UMED hosted an international scientific consortium meeting implementing the ODIN program. The project, funded by the Horizon 2020 program of the European Union, aims to introduce highly innovative solutions into European medicine to create model “hospitals of the future.” The team of researchers from the Department of Family Medicine at our university, working on this project, designed and implemented three complementary solutions as part of the project: an autonomous intrahospital robotic transport system, a remote location system for mobile devices (e.g., ultrasound machines) within the hospital, and a secure decontamination process for the robotic system exposed to infectious agents (e.g., potentially pandemic viruses like COVID-19). These solutions were practically implemented in the Emergency Department of the CKD hospital and demonstrated to the attending experts. The demonstration sparked lively interest from nearly 30 scientists in attendance, as UMED is the first partner in the ODIN consortium to successfully launch and integrate these specific systems. The experiences gained from these achievements will be utilized by the project’s international partners, primarily during the implementation of similar solutions in Madrid.
